The Rt Hon Lord Woolman was admitted to the Faculty of Advocates in 1987. He was Standing Junior Counsel for the Inland Revenue, the Ministry of Defence (Procurement) and the Office of Fair Trading. He became a Queen’s Counsel in 1998.
He was appointed as a judge of the Supreme Courts in March 2008, and appointed to the Second Division of the Inner House of the Court of Session in February 2020.
From 1999 to 2002 he served as an advocate depute, and between 2004 and 2008 he was Keeper of the Advocates Library. He was formerly Chairman of the Scottish Council of Law Reporting, the Bar Mediation Group and the Free Legal Services Unit.
He is the author of a book on the Scots law of contract and is a former deputy chair of the Boundary Commission for Scotland.
He was assigned as President of the Scottish Tribunals in August, 2020.
